It all started in October 2022, just one month after George moved from Brighton to Chicago. They met the modern way—on Hinge—and after a few good conversations, George asked Mackenzie out for a date.
Their first date was a Wednesday evening after work. George arrived nervous and a little sweaty, but Mackenzie was instantly charmed by the kiss on the cheek he greeted her with. Over too many old fashioneds, they laughed, connected, and even jokingly planned a future together—including a trip to Greece that, surprisingly, would become a reality just seven months later.
Things moved quickly and naturally. George immediately fell in love with Mackenzie’s cat, Blu—and shortly after fell in love with Mackenzie as well. They found every excuse to spend more and more time at each other's apartments and meeting up on dinner dates around the city.
They discovered joy in everyday moments: cooking together, searching for the perfect martini recipe, and traveling near and far. Mackenzie finally got a passport so she could go visit Brighton to see where George grew up and now happily joins him on the ongoing hunt for the best pub and pint as often as possible.
They also love taking the train to Michigan to visit Mackenzie’s family—a home away from home. They spend their time Wii bowling, drinking and staying up late talking in Michigan’s greatest speakeasy in Dorr, Michigan - Sonny’s. Together, they’ve made amazing memories—from Greece with George’s family to Madrid with Mackenzie’s—and have always loved dreaming big about the life they’re building together.
One of the most special joys they share is spending time with their nieces—Oakleigh, Evelynn, and Evelyn (yes, two with the same name!). Watching them grow up, laugh, and change has been a beautiful reminder of how sweet life can be. It’s a bond that brings them even closer together and one they both treasure deeply.
On Mackenzie’s 30th birthday, George whisked her away on a train to Paris. He had arranged a private tour of a hotel Mackenzie had always admired. But when they arrived early, George mysteriously disappeared to the bathroom—twice. Later, Mackenzie found out that those “bathroom breaks” were actually moments of nervous Googling: “Which knee do you propose on?” That “tour” ended in a beautiful guestroom that turned out to be a proposal. It was there that George got down on his left knee asked Mackenzie to spend the rest of their lives together. She said yes, and it truly felt like a dream.
Now, they’re overjoyed to bring the people they love most to a place that holds such a special place in their hearts. On every trip to England, they’ve made time to wander through the historic town of Lewes. With its charm, beauty, and sense of timelessness, it felt like the perfect setting to gather their friends and family. Mackenzie and George can’t wait to watch the many parts of their lives come together in one place, to celebrate love, laughter, and the story they’ve built so far.
